I am having problems with the rear end of my 03 GC. Sorry I don't have an answer, frustrating.

greengoblin, sounds like normal operation for an open differential to me. The power was going to the passenger side wheel. You tried to stop it so, the differential was attempting to route the power from the driveshaft over to the driver's side wheel. In an open differential the power from the driveshaft will be routed to the rear wheel with the least amount of outside resistense on it.

What with the link to a company that has nothing to do with jeeps? Spam much?

Do you even know for sure if you have a factory Trac Loc? If you do and it's doing what you said, it is bad. One wheel turning with any kind traction divice and no resistence is a bad sign.

Maybe he does have a Trac Loc, but forgot to put the fluid additive in with the oil? I have no idea how an LSD really works, but I think it may be a possibility.

What? I can barely read your post. Take the diff cover off and check if you don't know what's in there. Worst case scenario, you need to find another car to go out and get RTV, gear oil, and possibly friction modifier in.

Was it the passenger-side rear wheel that was jerking (the one you tried to hold on to) or the diver's-side? Could you see the other side?

yep normal open diff function! remember the power will take the route of least resistance... meaning the tire not being held at a stop will spin, but it will continue to attempt to spin the RR tire as power is transferred to the LR tire! Thus the "jurking" your talking about!!!
