Default Rear drums bad problems

Hey!
You guys are awesome first of all.
So here's my problem. Had a problem with
My right rear locking up when I applied the brakes... Super old never been touched drums

So.

Bought all new parts for the d44

Now I'm getting contact between the drum and the shoe but the shoes side. Not on the friction material. Like if the shoe was to thick

So I got the skinnier shoes ( same size that come off) still grinding the drum

It seems like the drum is going in to far! And needs a shim or something to keep it away from hitting the shoe...

What's next?

Thanks!

I'm no expert for the different parts available. Myself, I'd be comparing the old with the new..I guess there are different ones...

What parts did you replace, and which old parts are you re-using? Drums?
Something isn't matching up. I'd start by swapping the OLD parts back on until the rubbing goes away. The last part you change is probably the offender.

on drums you need to adjust the star adjuster all the way in then with the drum on adjust them till they make slight contact.

There are several drums for D-44's.
Go to a different parts house - different brand parts house will have a different computer. Compare with yours.

If new drums, you may have gotten the wrong ones. If you are using the old ones the PO may have.

So I like an idiot I gave my drums to the guy before I got my new ones.. Stupid so now I can't compare cuz they are gone. Guy measured them but he looks like he's on drugs

Anyways it seems like the offset or spacing is off
As in the drums are contacting the shoes because the drums are not wide enough

Sid of the shoes are hitting the drum and grinding!

So what do you guys think of grade 8 washers to get some space between the shoe and the drum?

Absolutely not. (and that from a scrapping tight assed McGivering dude). No games on the brakes. You owe it to US (and our children), that you at least install the correct parts. Just not a place to find out what can go wrong. F with the "GO" parts all you want. I might ask to talk with the manager at the place where I got the stuff that does not fit? Also, I might just walk right in to a dealer parts counter with that drum in hand and ask..wazzpp? (you don't need to buy anything , of course). If the shoes fit flat and right, you just have the wrong drum is my guess.

It was the offset of the drum.. I spaced it out with washers. No more issue. No noise problem solved.
Guy wouldn't take the parts back because they were scratched already by the side of the shoe

NOT A GOOD IDEA! Fix the problem the right way, you don't want to half a$$ anything in the braking system.

A wheel coming off. The washers make five little contact points and may let the drum shift and shear the lug studs.

Id grind the side off the shoes myself so full contact is made with drum and axle, and at least get measurement from old drums.

I was gonna' stay out of this but that tipped it. No telling what will happen with heat transfer if the drum and axle are not in contact. Maybe it distorts to a point, then goes ka-bluey?
