There is some ring/pinion play, but a lot more urgent is that one of the u-joint retaining straps is missing/broken off! That allows lots of play and an impending DS falling out. Watch the u-joint moving in the rear yoke. IMO

I crawled under and double checked - the retaining straps are both there. Trying to get those damn things off when I initially went to change the joints is what led me to create this thread in the first place.

Well the weather finally improved and I got under there and replaced those u-joints yesterday. I've noticed little, if any, improvement.

Well, after driving it a bit more I've noticed that the clunk on acceleration/deceleration has gone away... I guess that was probably the slip joint, which was pretty dry when I took the shaft off.
