my rear hatch door is open and the lock is closed and i can,t close the door now

So... Is the latch locked and the locking mech stuck or does the latch just need reset?


IOW what have you tried? What caused it to get "locked open" as you put it?

 

Pushing the latch release button should open the latch so that door can close.

 

Try the key? If that doesnt work, nor the handle, the linkage may need some encouragment. Remove the trim panel and manually unlock it from the backside. There is a threaded rod in there that likes to acts up.

 

I think I know what you're referring to. The actual latch on my rear passenger door sometimes got stuck down in the winter. Pushing it back up with a screwdriver will reset it. Really the latch should be replaced.

 

Not a jeep but same principles ......
