Some people just need to work for Chrysler. They also will correct you if you call it a rear diff. Rolling my eyes. They don't call them that anymore. Atleast he didn't get;the thing at the auto part store and things are expensive except for the things on eBay. That one ticked me off.

Huh?

What's the big deal here?

Get the 8.25 with associated parts, some new. Be done with it. I've done it with no issues.

D35 to C8.25 swap:

1. Your new axle must have the same gear ratio as the old. Generally all 4.0L automatics since the 80s have 3.55:1 ratio (a few had oddball towing and fuel economy gears)
2. C8.25 and D35 pinions are different lengths, you will need need the drive shaft from the donor as well.
3. Manual, Automatic, and 2WD driveshafts are all different lengths, too. So find a donor with the same everything except for the rear axle, and grab the axle and DS.
4. You will need new U bolts to hold it onto the leaf springs.
5. Do yourself a favor and replace the wheel bearings and seals.
6. Brakes probably need refreshing

Thanks for the valuable and helpful information. Printing this list for next time I head to JY

So, just to be clear the differential from the D35 fits right into the 8.25 housing as long as you use the same old rusty u-bolts from the axle? Right?

Just kidding!!!!

Smart ***!! LOL.

Find a 94 to 98 ZJ and grab the caliper brackets, calipers, lug studs and caliper bracket studs and do this.
