rear diff problem!!

Default rear diff problem!!

i went to replace my pinion seal on my 99 jeep cherokee, and when trying to remove the yoke nut, it slipped not undoing the nut. now my rear axle moves freely in gear and park. any one know what i broke?

Time to pop the cover and look inside. It is unlikely that you snapped the pinion.

Um dude, if it's what I'm thinking you are just fine. With the drive shaft off the rearend will turn weather it's in park or not. It's the transmission that is in park not the rearend. Try applying the Ebrake and the rearend will stop rotating so you can loosen the nut.

lol it didn't even occur to me that the Jeep would be on stands while doing this.
