rear defrost, wiper switch all messed up!!!
I just picked up 99 Cherokee Classic, now it has few problems.
Like most lifted jeeps, it has the "DEATH WOBBLE," plus
rear deforst DOES NOT WORK!! I'm not sure why. Searched all the
jeep forums and could find anything similar to my problem.
When I turn on the rear defrost switch, the wiper goes on forever unless
I turn it off. When I turn on rear wiper switch, the wiper goes on but
only slowly. Any ideas??
Any comments are welcome!

not sure if you got this fixed or not. Just ran accross it while looking for something. I had an issue where NONE of the rear anything worked. No wiper defrost or washer fluid. Here is what i found. When you open the tailgate there are two bundles of wires covered in a rubber boots. One on each side on the top. I found the drivers side bundle had most of the wires chaffed, cracked and severed. I fixed the wires and everything seems to be working. That could be your issue. Maybe something is grounding out. Hope this helped.
I would look for a problem with the ground back there. Sounds like the defrost grounds through the wiper motor causing it to run. Wiper runs slowly because it is grounding through defroster grid. Locate and repair or clean the ground connection.
I currently have this problem on my 99 XJ. I left the rear defogger switch on until the lamp in the switch went off. Now the lamp only comes on when the rear wiper switch is turned on. (The rear wiper is very slow, more about this later). I had to repair the rear defogger ground near the fuel filler and this restored the defogger operation. I also had to replace a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment. The rear defogger and side mirror defoggers operated normally for several cycles. The rear wiper is still slow. The 30 amp fuse blew again and the defogger fault has returned. I suspect the rear wiper is drawing excessive current causing the 30 amp fuse to blow when the rear wiper and rear defogger are turned on at the same time. I will replace the wiper motor and the fuse and see what happens.
