Default Rear Deck Latch

So, I am driving my rig around and the read deck is rattling to beat the band. Every little bump get's magnified inside the jeep like a bass drum. I have look at the latch on the deck seems fine, but the post on the jeep itself is warn. PO wrapped electrical tape around it, but that apparently is not working. How can I remove the post and replace it as it seems to be in place with rivets.

Thanx in advance!

Is the lift gate hitting the bumper? Being that they tend to take some hits in their life, the brackets and bolts holding your bumper on tend to shift around and loosen enough to rattle against the tail gate.

If you lay down at the back of the jeep and look straight up behind the centre of your bumper you will see 2 nuts about 2 inches apart. Those nuts are what hold the pin in place. I had the same problem with the hatch making an ungodly rattle on rough roads. I went to the jy and found another pin that was worn less and swapped it for mine. Still rattles but it's way better than it was. Unfortunately every one of those pins are worn, some more, some less. The best you can do is look for one with the least amount of wear or go to the dealer and buy new.

I had the exact same problem. Drove me NUTS. Take the cover off the inside of the door and remove the latch assembly from inside. It's like 4 star head bolts you can see on the bottom of the door. Throw it away, go to the junkyard and get a replacement and pop it in. Err... Not necessarily in that order

I know what you were talking about, I'm saying that I had the same problem with my rear hatch shaking, rattling and banging when I drove, and it was the door mechanism. Not the latch pin.
