Default Rear Bumper Question

Im currently acquiring the parts to replace my rear bumper/ tire carrier with the original stock bumper. I can find all necessary parts except Im having difficulty locating the part thats pointed out in the picture below. Is this a junk yard part?? Does anyone know the name for it to possibly do a search?? Thanks for any help.

That would be part number 5502 6542 ...Technical part description states "bumper shield" but the usual term is bumper filler...This might be a boneyard item from a 97-up ....
Additionally, the breakdown pic you've supplied is from an older model and some of those parts are not correct for the 97-up bumper...

I was aware that the reference pic was for an older model but I assumed the piece im searching for was still an important element to the bumper assembly. I do have a 2001 soooo I wonder if it's required. Thanks for your help with the part number!!!

Yeah, I found the image below from a 2000. The bumper shield definitely seems to be necessary.

It is only a piece of thin rubber/ plastic that fills the gap between the end of the bumper and the start of the frame. It is not airtight or water tight. Will send a picture of it tomorrow afternoon

The bumper filler just fills the gap between bumper and frame below/ behind hatch seal..can't even see it or the gap with hatch closed. Any piece of waterproof foam will probably work. Mine wasn't even bolted in, just pressed in the gap with cutouts for bumper mount supports. NOTE...my bumper was from my old 92. The 01 bumper had rotted away to junk. I had to drill a few different mount holes so its not a perfect fit...don't remember how well the original bumper mated to frame

It might have been, the original bumper was a rustpile and I was too cheap to buy one when I had something in the garage

As you probably already know...I did a simple google search for 5502 6542...10 or 12 hits come up.....out of stock or no longer available for all of them

For what it actually does, unless a boneyard is very local...any piece of waterproof foam or plastic sheet will do the same thing. Its more of a dirt or rock blocker. It will not keep water or fine particulates from collecting on the hatch...aft of the door seal. Depending on your actual gap, a 1 inch diameter pipe foam from Home depot will probably do just as good

2 one inch tubes, one around the other will probably fit more snugly and block any debris better than my factory junk
