This week I am having my brakes replaced. I bought 2.5" wide shoes and drums, but am a little worried about my XJ actually having 1.75" wide stuff. Does anyone know what would need to be changed to swap to a different width IF they are wrong? I just want to have my bases covered in case I get a call about them being too big. TIA

Why didn't you just order OE replacement?
To make that work you will need to remove the brake backing plate, cut off the old mounting bracket, fab up a new mounting bracket, and fab up a new backing plate and order new internal hardware. For the cost and amount of work you could do an 8.8 rear axle with discs, never mind converting your current to discs
