Default rear axle shafts change-able from L-R?

i'm was thinkin and was curious if rear axle shafts are side specific or can they be switched.... i feel kinda stupid asking but in lite of the recent situation i'm checking out spare shafts and found one for $55 shipped so
its from a 2002 wrangler with less than 40k on it 30 spline count... and he states it the left rear...
My dana 44 is from an 87 xj so any help would be great

I do not know on the D44, but for information purposes...

The Dana 35 axles are left/right specific
The Chrysler 8.25 axles are left/right interchangeable

One side is about 1/2 longer. If you put the long side in the short side, you will burn up your bearings. I have heard of ppl just carrying the sort side as a spare, cause short side "CAN" work in the long side, but be advised you dont have full spline engagement, thus a weaker fix.
