Default Rear axle seal

I've got an '87 with a d35 rear end that I need to replace the seals on by the wheels. The Haynes manual says in order to change these, you need to just undo 4 bolts and use a puller with a slide hammer to get the spindle out, then you will be able to get at the seal. Apparently, mine is not the c-clip type of axle.
The parts stores are telling me that I can't replace the seal, without replacing the bearing, which is pressed on the spindle after the seal - in turn, requiring a machine shop to do that.

Anyone got any input? Or is there an easier route? I'd like to get all the parts before I start tearing into it.

Just unbolt the 4 bolts at the axle flange and pull the axleshaft out. You'll see the seal after you remove the brakes and backing plate.

Where's the bearing in relation to all this? Is it pressed on the axle?

Ooops.. i stuck my foot in my mouth.

Non C-clip has the bearing and seal pressed onto the axleshaft itself. C-clip has the bearing and seal in the housing (i just did one).

Your gonna need a press to do this job.

you shouldn't have to remove the brakes to do this.... i had my Dana 44 shafts "rebuilt" (new seals and bearings) for $58 each... with yours being a Dana 35 i would suspect it to be nearly the same price +/-
