hey guys im new to the jeep scene and just bought a 96 xj. lovin the thing so far. 1 problem im havin is the rear needs bearings through out the whole thing. a buddy of mine had a 96 grand cherokee with a blown engine. i know his is a coil spring rear and mine is leaf. has any one swapped that axle into a xj? i know that were the spings mount i would have to change it. are there an other mods that would have to be done. or does anyone sell rear end kits(bearings gears shims)?

Depending on which rear axle you have (D35, C8.25) you can get a full used repalcement for cheap. if you have a D35 you should get a C8.25 to upgrad to a better axle.
but either way, you can buy bearings and seals to rebuild your own.
swaping in a axle from a grand cherokee would be a lot of work over getting another XJ axle. and the cost of brackets and welding would outway the benifit in my opinion. rear axles gor for $100-$250 around me..
most local parts stores will have the seals and wheel bearings in stock.

Axles are cheap. ($100-150 in my area) Check for to much backlash, leaks, dents and bent tubes. Stop at car wash blast the crud off. Couple of rattle cans, install and done. Unless your putting in something way better than a XJ axle it's not worth the time and effort to mod one to fit.

thanks guys. idk what one is in my jeep. from what i have gathered there was 3 options dependin if it is a stik or auto, depends if there was a tow package or not. mine is a 96 sport with a 5spd. i guess they had 3.07 gears? only reason i was goin to swap a grand cherokee rear was a buddy had one and it was rear disc whit i really would like to up grade too(disc brakes)
