Default REALLY bad U-Joints.....

I changed out the U-Joints on my XJ today on the rear drive shaft, and I think they were the original from the factory u-joints considering the shape they were in..... take a peek!! I can't believe I have been driving on u-joints like this as long as I have, I didn't realize they were this bad....

Those look like the front u-joints on my Ram 1500 but we get a lot of water buildup in the joints that freezes during the winter, so there's a reason for the erosion. I hope you replaced with greasable joints.

U-Joint rules to live by:
1.) If it's got a Grease Zerk...grease tha darn thing!
2.) If it doesn't have a Grease Zerk, take the caps off and add fresh grease.
3.) Comply with Rule 1 or 2 at least once a year

I don't know how you could stand the vibration...must have felt like one of those hotel beds you put dollars in.

Looks like my front axle's U-joints. I refuse to use 4 wheel drive until I replace them, but the whole front end needs some TLC too, so it hasn't been a priority. It will get done before the snow flies though.

Not to jack the thread, but everyone keeps mentioning vibration. Could bad u-joints cause slight vibration when going at speeds over 60 mph? Or would this more likely be ball-joints?

Bad u-joints generally cause vibes at any speed.
