Re-gear
Is there any front and rear ends that have a lower gear ratio that I can get to use as a method of regearing to run 33"? Or is the only solution to literally regear my current truck? I was just thinking that there might be a front and rear ends that might be stronger while also regearing the truck for me. I hope this makes sense to y'all. Thanks for the help, Ted.

do you have an auto or manual? you dont have much options, unless you want to go to full width axles, which you shouldnt with only 33s. 4 banger XJs came factory with 4.10 gears, so if you found some axles off a 4 cyl. then thats one way to to do it. only problem is in the junkyard all the 4 banger XJs are older versions, so D35 rear and disco D30 front (not as strong and reliable). so you'd be better off regearing your current axles, unless you have a D35.

yea i've never re geared before, but i'll proly end up paying someone to do it when the time comes. what rear axle do you have? you probably will want to get a stronger one to safely turn those 33s. oh and 4.56 is typically the ideal gear ratio for those tires. just letting you know.

my neighbor used to have a shop doing diffs and stuff, now he just works out of his house, iv helped him and now me and my dad are re gearing mine and i love doing things myself but if i had the choice of paying someone to do it i would, its such a pita to get the gears set right. everyone thinks its so easy but getting the gears in right is hard to do and takes time. its not uncommon to see my neighbor spend 2 hours shimming a diff then taking it apart to adjust it until its right.

ah i see. hopefully you dont break any shafts and get stranded. although dont you have a non c clip D35? i guess if you do your wheel wont be falling off if you break an axle.

getting stranded isnt an option, a guy from our group used an old battery and some pennies to weld a shackle in place to get back to camp once,
some of my dads buddies are fairly "hard core" i guess you can say and im learning alot of it
