Ratteling noise while acceleration
I just started using this non-ethonal gas from Marathon Gas Stations and I have noticed recently this rattling noise when I accelorate. I notice it most when I am driving up a hill in a low gear. Its not too loud but it is there. I am guessing the lower grade gas maybe. I use the cheap non-ethonal stuff. What could the noise be and could the gas be the issue?

I recently have had a similar noise to the front end. I never changed gas, it just kinda started one day. So i went and got it checked out yesterday after three weeks of defening murr. My mechanic told me it was my wheel berrings and U joints. Hope that Helps.

I had the wheel bearings checked. Its not that. It is a pinging like noise you get from low grade gas or injectors going bad. I still think it has something to do with the low grade gas I put in it. Maybe I will drop some octane boost or gas treatment in it this morning and see if it goes away. I was just hoping there would be some experience in this with the low grade non-ethonol.

87 octane is perfectly fine, 87 octane non ethanol is preferred. And octane booster wont do anything.
If you want to add anything, get something worthwhile like BG44K

used some 44k last week. Then filled my tank for the first time at this station with non-ethanol and now it pings. I used to run just shell and no ping. Thats why I am thinking its the gas, but I dont believe it has to do with the non-ethanol, I think its just a bad batch of gas. They have premiun non-ethanol so maybe I will try that next time. The ping is only there while just giving it a slight amount of gas going up a hill, it will go away if I give it more gas. I just noticed it last night so I will pay more attention to it this morning.

Ok, I will try to be as specific as possible. What I noticed last night was while the enigine is in a lower gear while going up hill it will make what I think is a ping. It sounds like a small link chain rattle. It seems to only happen while under load. For example, while moving up a hill if I just barely have my foot on the gas without pushing down much its makes this sound. I did go for it and put some octane booster in this morning on the way to work and after a while it seemed to be gone. Two weeks ago I put some 44k in a full tank and it did great. This monday I put in a full tank of this Non-ethanol gas from Marathon service station and last night two days later noticed this ping (rattling) noice. The only most recent change I have made was this gas. I dont think it has anything to do with the non-ethanol but the actual quality of gas. I may just go back to getting it from the local shell station once I run this out. The location is hard to pinpoint but I can tell it is coming from the engine and not from wheels.

Can you tell where the sound is coming from.. engine area, under carriage... Sounds like a cat converter to me depending where the sound is..
Deisel: could he be having pre det in a cylinder.. i think this because lower octane gas can cause those symptons.. Correct me if im wrong..

Its hard to pinpoint the location. It sounds like its coming more from under the jeep around the engine but I am not for sure. It did seem to go away after adding the octane booster but I will take if for a spin on my lunch break and check it again. If it did go away after adding the booster could I pretty much sum it up to a bad tank of gas?
