I just replaced my steering gear to a durango box and got new lines. I replaced the fluid obviously, bled it correctly to the best of my knowledge. My issue is that occasionally at low speeds my steering stiffens up as though I'm losing power steering momentarily, but the steering returns to normal after I hit the gas a bit. Could this be a pump issue? (I had no problems prior to the swap) I've also heard it could be a result of a loose belt, which lll check in a few. Thanks for any input.
to bleed it, you need to support the front end off the ground with rear parking brake on. Then start the truck and slowly turn lock to lock, repeat until no air bubbles appear (I've had some go 5-6x, others 15x+). Make sure of course to keep the fluid at the correct level and keep inspecting. For the hard part, that could be a restriction in the line, an air bubble, a pump going, etc. I would rebleed it first.

in almost 20 years of working on stuff for a living all ive had to do to bleed any p/s system in top it off after starting , turn wheel 3-4 times lock to lock recheck level, and shut it off and let it set for 15 minutes and done.. Now you sound like you have a weak pump or a loose belt..
