1999 Cherokee 4Ltr 2WD 254 K No CEL no Codes
Several days ago it wouldn't start on the first crank. When it did start, the engine would surge to 1500-2000 RPM,s and slowly back down to 1000. Slightly higher than normal. Yesterday started on the first crank, but the engine would surge to 2000 or so then slowly drop back to idle. Drove for another 5 minutes or so then it stalled. It took several minutes to start then it would immediately stall. This occurred several times, when it finally coughed to life, ran very rough for a moment then ran well enough to get home. I checked the Crank P.S. it reads open. I drove it and it stalled after 5 minutes, but restarted, and I returned home.
Any help will be appreciated.

 

Does it stall when you are using the gas pedal (like when accelerating or cruising)? Or only when you are off the gas pedal (like startup and deceleration)?
