My rad right behind the full cap on my 96 xj has like a plug of some sort. It's leaking out of there and I was wondering if anybody had this happen to them or know how to fix this. Thanks if you can help!

I haven't seen that before, is the rad a replacement that was not intended for your xj? I will not be much help, but I really can't see how you can fix that without getting a new rad. In the hole for the rad cap, can you see that rubber plug?

Yeah it's factory 99 percent sure and yeah you can reach your finger in the rad cap and touch the plug. I have no idea what to do. I guess I'm gonna end up spending 110 on a new one

Hold off on buying a new one until someone that actually knows what you are dealing with replies. Could be as simple as pressing that one in more, or buying a new plug. Now that I think about it, I am not sure I know what that spot looks like on a stock rad lol.

Factory rad (right) have the same plug.....probably used in the tank manufacture/molding process. Don't know if it can be repaired/resealed. Probably best to bite the bullet and replace the rad.

Doesn't that plug unscrew off? If so you just need a new o-ring. I remember seeing some that screwed off and it was just a o-ring sealing the plug.

Its possible that it just molded in like stated before. The worse you do with trying more it having to replace it and which is possible you might have to anyways. Worse is that it breaks more and you gotta spend a bill for a new one.

If you can remove it, I wonder if something like this would work:

Been there, and it doesn't come out...throw some jb weld around the seam and call it a day. Mine lasted like that for years

Just make sure you mix it good and pack it in the seam well

I'd be more concerned about coolant residue remaining down inside the seam/gap and JB Weld not having a good/clean surface to adhere to. Oh well, a leak is a leak, worth a try I guess.
