Default Radio Memory

so i have a 1991 XJ Laredo and i got a Sony CDX-GT130 deck. its all hooked up and everything works. but the radio doesn't hold its memory when i take the key out from the ignition. no problems with any fuses either. would the radio be the problem or is there another problem? im just sick of resetting everything everytime. thanks for looking.

You don't have the constant battery voltage wire from the head unit hooked up right, you have it wired to a switched circuit. Should have ground, constant battery, and switched.

Should have two hot leads. One red goes to constant on. straight to battery. One yellow to a keyed switch in fuse box

Go to BestBuy and get a plug in harness for your model year, it will save you a lot of headaches.

if you're sure about your mechanical skills, you can run a fused link from your battery. otherwise, shut the vehicle off, put an ohm meter on those two wires, see which one has power. the one that does have power, goes on the yellow wire from the head unit.

i have one but the ***hole b4 me ripped the whole radio system and wiring hookup out so i had to splice all the wires to just the input to the radio. i havent had any time to go to a junkyard either to hook one up. i had to nearly start from scratch :P. i got it running and i still got to look at it for the memory. ill check next week. my job sucks and let you know what i figure out.

That is the problem with vehicles this old and owned by a few people ahead of you, there will almost always be some butchered up wiring someplace.
