Radio has power but wont come on?? **Help**
This just started this morning. I jumped in the jeep, cranked everything up and noticed the time was missing off the clock on the radio. I thought it was because it was just to dim with the lights on in the day but nope its just not showing up. On top of that the radio wont turn on but the backlight to all the buttons are on??? Im thinking this could be something loose but thought I would ask the forum and see if anyone else has seen this or has a idea.. I have a 2001 jeep cherokee sport, with the CD/Tape/am-fm stock radio.
Thanks for any help.

You'll need a wiring diagram to confirm this - I might be way off in my assessment.
On the stereos I'm familiar with, there are 2 sources of power. The first one is directly from the battery, it is for the stereo's memory. Things like the clock, stations you have programmed, and maybe the digital display. It is a smaller wire of the two.
The second source powers the stereo itself - the CD laser head and motor, the drive for the tape deck, the power amp, yada yada.
Sounds like you may have lost a fuse or otherwise lost power on the memory power feed to your stereo.
If you don't have a wiring diagram, your local library may very well have it. The Professional Motor's Manuals and Professional Chilton's Manuals usually cover this stuff pretty well.
Good luck and let us know what you find!

Upgrade your receiver these stock head units suck..but start by replacing your fuse in your passenger side fuse box..if not fixed pull your deck out make sure all the wires are in the connectors..

Sounds like a short in the factory radio itself... not an uncommon issue. Oh and hello from Concord, I believe you sent me a message but I was new and couldn't work the mail to respond. If you drive this way, let me know, perhaps we can talk Jeep in person. My name is Mike.
