radiator over heat w/ AC on
So today my baby overheated. It was sitting in the driveway with the AC on and it started smoking and the gauge was close to 290. I quickly turned it off and opened the hood to see fluid coming from under the cap as well as from somewhere where the AC line connects to the radiator. My fluid is a nasty brown so tomorrow I'm going to flush and put on a new thermostat & housing anything else I should do? Water pump? Any ideas on the leak from where the AC hooks into the radiator?
Sorry for any typos or poor grammar I'm sending this from my phone using the forum app for android :-)

Water pump might not be needed, try removing your thermostat and checking your flow, make sure the fill tank is full up, sounds like the stat is stuck could be the pump though. Also make sure both your fans are running...

make sure the electric fan comes on when u turn ur a/c on. As far as the a/c line going into the radiator thats ur a/c condenser, but that shouldnt be leaking water????? it could have just been water running down ur radiator!

Just checked this morning and the electric fan did not come on when I turned on the AC.
Also should I flush before I put the new tstat & housing in or after?
The attached pics are from where fluid was spraying out. I am thinking it was just from the pressure build up and I don't have a 'leak' but still going to replace hoses :-)

just take the lower hose off. Plus witha rad that gunked up I would probably just replace. Look at the radiator on the battery side, I have a feeling the bottem couple cores are probably rotting out on you also.

FOUND MY PROBLEM! there is a hairline crack where the lower hose connects to the radiator. Gonna gum it up until I can get a new radiator next week.

Flush it before the thermostat, you want to clean it all out either way. you could even leave the thermostat out until you get the new radiator. Its summer so there is no need for the thermostat right now your not running heat.
Its a combination of things, if the fan isn't coming on thats going to make it over heat too... the crack will also speed this up. You could probably get away with JB Weld on the crack. Pull the rad, clean the area real good and JB Weld the inside and the outside.
So fix the crack, check the fuses on the fan, you should be good to go.

That is more for holes in the Rad, it might help with the crack but with everything that looks like is already in there I wouldn't put it in. The JB Weld should be good if you prep it right, take it off wire brush it, acetone the area and put it on, might take two coats don't make them thick your hose still has to seat on there. Just a nice thin layer inside and out twice should do it.

They actually had a radiator in stock so I just bought a new one. Headed home to install it now. Wish me luck, I've never put a radiator in before :-) !

Be sure to remove the t-stat cover and water pump so u can thoroughly flush the head/block thru the t-stat hole with a garden hose. If u don't, that rusty lumpy crap is headed straight for that new rad. Coolant doesn't turn rusty brown over night......check it frequently (once a week) when the motor is cold....replace coolant when color starts to change.
