Default Radiator flush problems

Hi all.

This morning in -14 celcius my water temperature went into the red, I stopped let it cool and restarted with no problems. I decided to flush the system out completely and fit a new thermostat. I disconected the top and bottom hoses and flushed them out, fitted the new t-stat and filled the system and bled it using the bleed screww on the top left hand side of the rad.

Problems.

The yellow radiator water light will now not go out..I have squeezed the hoses with the bleed valve open but it still wont go out and I can not get any more water/coolant in to the system???

secondly..Can someone confirm which way round the t-stat goes please??..I fitted it with the spring into the top hose with the sensor side in to the t-stat housing. The cabin does not warm up very well at all but it never did so I hoped this proceedure would help.

Cheers all

Thanks. It seems I have fitted it the wrong way round !! How can I get the level light to go out..I know it works, I'm sure there is air in the system.

Thanks again

Hi.

I have now turned the t-stat around the right way and checked the cap. Light is still on "low coolant level"..what is the right way to bleed the system..I have no rad cap just a pressure bleed screww on the top left hand side of the rad...also where is the low level sensor..maybe the wire has come off.

Cheers

Mark

There is an expansion tank and at the bottom there is a sensor..or something electrical. I have disconnected that and reconnected it, cleaned the plug but the light is still on. This morning the car overheated temporarily but no signs of hg problems. Thwe sensor was fine until I flushed the system..do you think it has gone and is just a coincidence??

I can't post a pic at the moment..will try TM when it's light.

I disconnected the lead to the bottom of the expansion tank and the light did not go out..this is getting bloody annoying. I have flushed the system, fitted a new t-stat and refilled it. The levels seem ok..although the top hose was a bit cold when I went out a minute ago temperature is normal..level seems ok...air do you think??

Thanks for your help
