Got a strange one for you guys,

Finally got my XJ renewed plates and took her out tonight. Started getting dark, so I flipped on the headlights. Immediately the issue caught my eye. With the headlights on (as well as when the **** is only pulled part way out for gauge lights), the left turn signal light stays lit. However, while it remains lit, the actual left turn signals do not stay lit. When I flip the turn signal switch down (for left), the light will begin to blink like normal. When I make my turn or pull the switch back up, it goes back to stay solid and lit up. When I pull the switch up for right, the right turn signal blinks as is normal, but the left still stays lit. With hazards on, both lights blink like normal.

What's going on here? EVERYTHING works as is normal, except the left turn signal light on the gauge cluster will always stay lit when not in use as long as the headlamp **** is pulled out (this is my '91 btw). Could this possible be the little click relay that goes in that fuse board under the dash?

Hey Man...If it's screwy, and it's taillights, I vote grounds. A pretty easy, 100% sure test....Run a long wire, (or a shorter one using your jumper cables), from your Bat neg....right to the metal on the bulb socket.

No taillight issue whatsoever. All tail lights and everything work as normal. It's only the cluster left turn signal indicator that stays lit with the lights on.

do all the PARKING LAMPs light up with the headlights on? There are 2 filaments in the bulbs - one for blinking, one for parking/marker light. If one is burnt out and the filament is shorted to the other one the light on the dash will do what you describe.

Look for the parking light that's not lit up with the headlights on. Replace it ans you should be good.

Didn't even cross my mind to check that. I'll run outside real quick and give em a look see. Hopefully this is the case. Little things like this light issue annoy the crap out of me. Thanks for the help! I'll post what I find.

ok if it wasnt a case of a bad bulb try checking the flasher unit on the fuse block, that popped into my head today and it seems to damn simple a fix but that could be it.
