I'm getting ready to replace everything on my exhaust except the manifold. Mine is a Jerry rigged mess.
After the cat, is there a piece of pipe before the muffler? Or does the muffler weld strait to the cat?
I'm just going to order the stock pieces an have them welded up, don't have the $ to upgrade right now.

It was cheaper for me to go with an aftermarket higher flow cat and stockish muffler rather than buy oem parts. Oh, and there is about 3-4" pipe in between my cat and muflr.

However, I live in the rust belt. So my exhaust probably isn't stock, just really old. I have no pipe that runs between my cat and muffler. My tailpipe ends precisely where it should in the back of the Jeep below the rear bumper.

Sweet!... I'll check out those suggestions
So far I'm Gunna get the oem stuff and a bolt on cat... I'm at under $150 including having it welded (beer). I'm sure the muffler is garbage for $30, but times are tight right now.

Now that was helpful... Thanks!
Welded I just a preference for me. I've done both ways. This just gives me an excuse to go over and visit with the welder in the family.

For example... I believe my stock cat is 2.5" O.D., however the muffler I'm getting is 2.25" I.D. Which is the current setup I have now. Thus the cat will be fitting over the muffler on mine. Not getting it welded.

Depending on the size of the cat... Sometimes it will slip over the muffler.
