Arrow Quick! Name that noise!

Since there are a million different noises these things make, I thought it would be cool to start a thread where people could post their noises and benefit from the knowledge of the more experienced jeeper.

This is a noise from my 91 XJ limited 4.0 coming from the front axle area around the diff.. Its a new noise and didnt start until this week. JUst changed the diff fluid in the D30 with coastal 80w90. Fluid still there and full. No idea what it could be..im a jeep newb.

What's the pumpkin? The differential? i just changed the fluid in it, didnt touch anything on the internals other than pumpin the fluid in. I'll try to jack it up, what should or shouldnt move and how much? I twisted the front drive shaft yesterday and had a very very small degree of rotational play at the TC. otherwise it is tight.

BUt again, the sound comes from the center of the front end

Changed the fluid in the TC today, well... there wasnt more than a 1/2 quart to drain so i basically filled the TC today. prolly has alot to do with it. Where can I buy sparkly oil to replace the stuff that came out? just kidding. we all know what that means

hubs are new then you better check those splash guards they love to make noise after pulling the hubs and putting them back on

do they just need to be tightened or what? no idea what they are, just a metal shield on the back of the rotor?

yep just a metal shield that fits over back side of hub as a rotor splash guard ...they were a PITA on my ZJ when ever I removed/reinstalled them you can jack up front end and spin tires to see if any noise but may not make noise then so just make sure they are away from rotor play with them a bit see what happens... I just removed them eventually .
