Default Questionable wires?

Was trying to fix my faulty dash lighting, ended up being a fuse. In the process I managed to find two wires under the dash that were not connected to anything. The first is a wire that hangs right above the hood release, it is a little larger. The second is a small wire that is up behind the light switch. Anyone know what these could be?

If your XJ is a base model, it will have a lot of un-used connectors up under the dash. The OEM basically used a "One size fits all" wiring harness. The up model XJs with more accessories use more or all of the connectors. In the case of my 91 Sport, it has many un-used. Just make sure if it is a connector that has a hot lead that it isn't touching ground and you will be fine.

Wow!! In the case of a Country model, you should have every option that was offered. does everything in your Jeep work? Are there in plugs near the plugs you found that look like they should be connected together? I'm wondering if something was unplugged or removed by the PO leaving the hanging plugs you found.

I saw from looking at your Jeep pics that you don't have the factory driving/fog lights. You will have wiring...and it is in the area you found those connectors, for that system. I actually found a driving light switch panel in a Jeep in the junkyard and put it in my Sport that didn't come with the OEM driving lights. There was a connector behind the dash that was just hanging that plugged right in.
