I have a '96 XJ Sport that did not originally come with cruise control. I may have an opportunity to pick up a factory cruise control kit.
My question is: Is the '96 XJ Sport pre-wired through the steering wheel for cruise or can I expect to have to yank the steering wheel for the install. Because if so, I'll probably go with another kit. I was just hoping to have steering mounted controls...
Thanks for the input.

I have 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport no factory cruse control - look for factory wiring steering wheel and right side engine compartment could not fine any wiring -going to hook inside controls were it will work of controls on the dash. With older sys that works off vacuum sys.

as far as I know they come pre wired for all the factory extras.
if you plan on installing it you have to "defuse" the air bag first, if I can find the same unit you found, I'll do it on my 96XJ

I'm looking for one of those factory cruise kits. I have a 99 Cherokee sport, and want cruise one way or another, but prefer it to look factory.
The steering wheel only requires one wire, as the switchpanel uses resistors. And it appears it only needs the vacuum unit in the engine compartment. But it's the switches that I really want. I want my jeep to look stock, at least in the wheel. You can get inside the wheel easily. The nuts hold the airbag on, so follow proper procedures to take that off. But I THINK you can get in there without touching the air bag. The two screws on the back of the wheel hook the panels that hold the switches. I think you can get the panels off without taking the air bag off. But I don't know if it's possible to get the panels back on with the airbag in place.
The other problem maybe the wires. I don't know if you have to put in a new clockspring or not. If you can just drop down the shaft... But that may not be a good idea.
The factory kit was only $230, which is pretty reasonable, but none are available anywhere. Unless a dealer has one open on the shelf off national inventory...
Hey, I'd buy it in a second!
Does ANYONE know what was actually in the factory kit? Or even have a manual?
