Question: Cost of Replacing Front & Rear Differential Seals?
How much should it cost to replace the front & rear differential seals on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo? I've replaced about everything else over the years but this one hasn't come up before.
The shop I frequent quoted me at $420 for the differential service as well as replacing the seals. Is this normal? Some people I've talked to said that they only paid around $150.

He said he just had to reseal the differential covers after removing them and cleaning everything out. He said no to the pinion seals.

When I had my rear differential serviced it cost me $80. That included fluid, labor, and the seal, which is basically a bead of silicone when they put it back together. So for 2 it should be around $160. Whoever quoted you $420, stay away for them from now on.

I did my differential fluids a while back and they were one of the first things I changed. It's super easy. You could do this is your driveway if you felt like it

If all it is is popping off the cover, replacing the fluid and putting the cover back on, that is $350 too much that you were quoted.
If they are talking about the pinion seals, that's a different story
If they are talking about the axle shaft seals, that's also a different story.
I did my balljoints 2 weekends ago and once I put everything back together, my axle shaft seals were leaking. I got so mad and didn't want to tear everything apart again that I said screw it and threw it at the first shop I could find to do it. $500 later, no leak

You might try posting in the Grand section. With the front's out you might take a good look at the Ujoints or whatever it has. I'd call some shops, then look for a local mobile mechanic without all that overhead. Sometimes parts stores know who wrenches in your area.

How much would a shop charge to replace the front and rear axle shaft seals and pinion seals on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I got a price on $1,000 from 2 shops to do everything and didn't know if that is about right.

Based on the estimate of 2 shops, I'd say $1000.

That might not be tooooo high. Pinion seals....? Are yours leaking? 1/2-2/3 of that might be the pinion seals. They may not be prone to leak if something else isn't wrong, then the real $ kicks in. Likewise, pulling the axles other stuff may well come up, U joints for instance. Pinion seals might not be a job for a mobile mechanic. Idk there.
