i have a 99 xj limited and would like to switch my stock alternator to a higher power one without paying $300-400 does anyone know if there is any that will fit ive heard a v8 98 grand cherokee might

that sounds like something i would be interested in also, wonder what ended up coming of it? nobody confirmed anything from the looks

 

Be sure to upgrade your wiring too, from the alternator to the battery, and from the battery to the PDB/starter, etc. Also upgrade your grounds, I have a small piece of large gauge cable going to my radiator support as a chassis ground. I think 5-90 sells a kit with some pretty beafy wiring, but it might of been someone else. Might be kinda expensive too. It is recommended that you use at least 4 Gauge wiring. Chrysler/AMC was pretty lacking in the wiring department.. Think of upgrading your alternator and using stock wiring like hooking a fire hydrant up to a garden hose and trying to put out a house fire...

For upgrade options, I've given the list of possible donors on most national boards I frequent, so see if you can dig it up. The 136A unit is known to fit (you may need to grind the mounting area down to clear the frame,) but I've yet to get confirmation on fitment of the 160A unit.

And yah, you're going to want to upgrade your mains wiring to take full advantage of your upgraded alternator - the only automaker I can think of that's more stingy with wiring than Chrysler is Ford (I've seen Fords burned up due to lighting upgrades without upgrading the wiring as well...)
