Default question about IAC

I know my IAC is messed up by the way it will sometimes rev really high and not come down when I start it.

Can I just take it out and clean it really well instead of replacing it? The one I saw at napa was like 115$ If there is a way to fix it without spending that much that would be cool.

Is it possible or just replace it?

you can try cleaning it but when i tried to just clean it it didnt fix it all the way, so i ended up replacing it and runs a million times better

I had teh some problem with mine, got my IAC from Advanced (Discount Auto Parts in some places) and got it for 49.84 and it worked good for about 4 hours. Turned out it wasnt the problem, my TPS jumped or was missadjusted, took it to a shop he adjusted it for me at no charge and no problems since then.

It worked for about 4 hours because you got a bad one at advance or because that wasnt the problem?

im still using the iac i got from advanced and everything is working fine since i got the tps adjusted so i am guessing that the iac wasnt the problem. mine needed to be replaced anyways, i got the jeep and it looked like it had been sitting parked for a while. My advice is get the TPS checked first ( shouldnt cost anything) then if that doesnt fix the problem replace the iac.
