Default Put it back together? serious trouble....

I have a d35 with a detroit locker ( yeah I know). Detroit was used and has been unbolting itself. Did it again and broke another bolt flush with the housing. I have no other carrier to replace it with. Need my jeep cause it's my dd. What do you guys think? Willing to put back together and just run it for now. Thanks

Was the bolt on the locker or a ring gear bolt. The ring gear bolts should have lock tight on them.

Default bolts

The bolt was on the housing itself and not the ring gear. Thankfully I have not had any trouble with those. It's the one of the six bolts that hold the detroit together and snapped clean and flush with the bottom half of the housing. I have used red locktite on them to hopefully stop this from happening. But it still is happening. I just put it back together so that i have a vehicle and will be headed to the jy to find a d35 with a good carrier that is able to be used. Thank you for responding.

Due to the fact you have 3.73 gears you will need to get the carrier from a ZJ with towpachkage. D35 carrier gearing break is 3.55 and lower numerically and 3.73 and higher numerically. XJ are 3.55 or 3.07 gears most of the time. Just becareful to verify gearing on the donor.

93gc40 Thanks for the info... do you know what years would most likely have them.. not to familiar on Grands... To rich... I used red locktite to stop them from undoing themselves... about every three months i have to open diff up and take it apart and pull the detroit out to clean and rebolt the two halves back together. I used the locktite in hopes that it would hold itself together and not snap... and that worked so well. When i first put it in everything was ok and then it just started to sound funny. Opened it up and it had snapped a bolt the first time and the others were about threaded out. Past couple of times i have been just opening up and fixing and decided to just use red locktite to stop them from undoing themselves completely... . Sorry if i made you think otherwise i was in a rush to get it posted. This is snapped grade 8 bolts twice and likes to unthread itself. Yeah for learning new things! Thanks guys for offering up ideas though.

If you have a welder here is a opition. i have had similar things happen. weld a nut to the top of the broken bolt stud. Might work , might not. But it might be worth a shot before buying another diff.

Thought about the same thing. Problem is that is snapped below the edge and on and angle... have to run out and get a good steel punch so that i can try to use my left hand drill bits and extractors. Thinking that i will just get a new carrier for now and not have a locked rear end.

Carrier brake on a 35 is 3.31 and lower and 3.55 and higher (nemerically) so a carrier form a Cherokee with 3.55s will work with your 3.73s.
