Put an '00 exhaust system in an '01
So I've got an '01, which has the 4 O2 sensors, two converters, and catalytic converter (yes, that's three converters). It's got 150k miles on it and has just started throwing a code saying the converters off the manifold are not longer efficient. I tried replacing the O2 sensors, but it appears to be the converters themselves.
Problem is, those guys appear to be pretty dang expensive to replace.
So what I'd like to do is take the exhaust system from an '00 (that doesn't have the converters off the manifold) and put it on my '01. Here's what I /think/ it entails:
It'd let me get new headers, which is nice, but I'd need the pipes around the main cat that have the O2 sensors before and behind it (though I guess one of those O2 sensors is often just off the manifold, which is also fine). I'd then need to splice the two O2 sensors into 4.
But my thought is, that's pretty much it. Doing this, even with adding new headers, would be /far/ cheaper than replacing the two converters on the manifold.
Has anyone done this before, or have some good reasons for or against it.
As an FYI, there's no emissions where I'm at and I'm not trying to get around having a catalytic converter. I just one one instead of three.

Haven't done it, but would be interested in how it comes out/any of thoughts you get on this. I have an 01 too and just the thought of those stupid extra 2 cats drives me nuts. I'm going to have to get a new catalytic and muffler soon due to mine being pretty much rusted out....and I would love to just buy 1 of each as well.

mileage
I also have a o1 / 4.0 stock. Gas Mileage is terrible, around 13 to 14. Just curious what your mileage is. Been thinking of putting new cat converter on. Any suggestions?

you could run all new pipe... with one converter... one muffler... the exhaust shop can make holes for your 02 sensors where u need them... cheapest and easiest to do...

I would think your ECU will be throwing codes all over the place (o2 sensor related) if you either omitted them or wired them to another sensor. If you go with the non-emissions package (I think it was available on '00 and '01), you may want to try to get a hold of the computer for it as well.
