I am LMBO at that ripoff report link. The guy is buying the exact motor I need and his name is Nick. Hmmmm... think someone's trying to tell me something?

I have used Mich Motor Exchange before. To be honest, it wasn't a great experience, but I chalked that up to the pile of crap I sent them to work with.

Still, I will check the other place you mentioned. Thanks again.

Before I go searching, is there by chance a write up here on the core jobs? I have a G8 and on the G8 boards, they have some great user submitted how-to's.

Ive got some extreme OCD when it comes to online purchasing and such. And I make it an almost all day job of background checking a company before I make large purchases. If I see ANY negative bbb stuff, that wasnt handled, or if the company has a lower than A rating from there, I almost never buy from that company. Ive read too many horror stories on various car sites to mess around.

Anyway, heres a direct link to all the how-to's on this site. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f30/

This couldnt have come at a better time, I am in the exact same situation...well not kid wise, but 2000 XJ needing a rebuild.

I called the place you mentioned and got the same price, they said if I gave them notice they could do an even swap with a rebuild for my core motor next day. After reading this though, not sure I want to do that. I also called
http://www.warrenengine.com and talked to Gary, seemed very helpful and knowledgeable about the 4.0 motor. Quoted me a price of around 1300 something for rebuild without head replacement if mine was still good.

I am still wondering if I should try to just rebuild mine myself though. The body on the XJ is in perfect condition with no rust at all.

I just bought an ATK motor from checker auto parts for 1500. I have never replaced an engine and did it myself with just a manual from an auto parts store. I'm also a little ocd so I wanted to do it myself to make sure everything was re-attatched. Also with the extra money I saved I bought a magnaflow exhaust, 3 core radiator, new headers, and new injectors. I bought alot of other new parts so I'm into it for about 3000. I bought the xj from an impound lot so I didn't know history, this is the reason for the new parts.
