I think that's pretty normal for 35 year old oxidized paint.

bro, it would seem the clearcoat (which is always over a metallic) is well degraded
looking at what you posted, I would get a spray can of matching metallic, some clear, and fader, some delicate work and you should be able to blend in any repairs quite well
I would probably go further and repair the down to rust areas if I could.
If done carefully, this will retain the original look
