Default problems with my 97 xj

Hey im new to this whole forum thing. i have a problem with my 97 xj it started towards the end of last summer. it is throwing a check engine code and it reads camshaft postion sensor circut mafunction bank 1 or bank a or something like that all i know is when the check engine light is on the jeep will not start it turns over but will not fire and when it does finally start it hesitates like it has a bad o2 sensor please help it is my only means of transportation oh and it only seems to act up when it is warm through the winter is was fine....

You answered your own question.

You have a bad crank sensor.

its on the drivers side on the top of the transmission bellhousing. You can see it from the engine bay. Google it if you need a pic!


Laptop is now dead in 3... 2..

Actually, the Camshaft Position sensor is under the Distributor cap. Take distribtor cap off, then rotor button, youll see wires coming out, follow them disconnect the plug, remove black plastic disc in dristibtor. This may also be referred to as Pick up Coil, or Stator.

i replaced that about four or five months ago could it have gone bad already

disconnect the plug, and inspect for corsion, apply some dielecrtic grease.

ok i have replaced the crank sensor and the pick up coil and it has been fine since i was on last and it is now doing the same thing everything is new any other suggestions guys

un plug the sensors look for corrosion bad connectors on the harness

every connector i have found i have cleaned and put diolectric greese on them ?

cam sensor is under the distributor cap as said above... but hte CRANKSHAFT position sensor is on the bellhousing of the tranny like HI IM ADAM has said... having to replace the CKS myself as soon as I get paid...
