problem's with 96 jeep cherokee sport 4.0 need help please

I am having a few problem's with my 96 jeep sport 4.0. This is the first time i have posted anything so let me know if i am doing this right as well. My main problem with my jeep is when it is idleing it acts like it wants to stall out but never does. There are times where she will run great but here lately she has been running really ruff. Basically what is going on is i start it up and she starts fine all the gauges work great but it is acting like it is not getting fuel. I have replaced the fuel filter as well as had the timing adjusted and put new disTributor and cap as well as rotor button. Now i have not replaced the fuel pump as of yet going to this week. If you no of anything else that could possibly make my jeep act like its going to stall or if possibly another thing i should check please let me know. I would love to get my jeep running strong again before winter.

My advice possible. Air in fuel line clean ur tps be really carful cleaning it if u mess the spring up ur done for70$ make sure ur vacuumes are good. Check for intake. Manifold cracks to. Any air in that area can cause problems to

^^agree with TPS. Also do your spark plugs and wires. You should upgrade em to 8 mm wire. I just did mine and it starts and runs beautifullyyyy

My was doin funky junk like that it ended up. Being. The tps and a crack in thw itm towards. The block hope this helps

Don't throw money at the darn thing, figure out what's going on first.
Buy a fuel pressure gauge if you suspect a fuel pump issue.

Clean the throttle body.....Thoroughly.

Use the search feature on this forum. A lot of your questions are covered already.

I put bout 20 oz of gas in my intake n let it sit overnight. Took awhile to crank n when it did it smoked it *** off but I did it 4 times to loosin all the gunk on the valves and in the intake I think I had a fair. Cleanout just my opinion

Really bad advice. This is a great way to hydrolock an engine and lead to VERY expensive repairs.

Idk how gas would hydrlock a motor lol especially. Whe most of it evaporates when it 110 out side

um, how did clean the TPS?? moisture is a detrimental factor in TPS failure... its an enclosed sensor that uses a combination of applied voltage & resistance differences to take readings... i think u got the TPS & IAC mixed up... IAC builds carbon deposit & is "cleanable"

just my experience, but when my TPS began to malfunction, start up was fine, & idle normal, but more commonly when at running temps, would high idle around 1700-1800, only in gear, neutral would drop down to normal 700-800... a few times it couldnt decide where to idle, putter & sound like it was stalling out, tho this was remedied by a quick rev, then would normal out... also, CEL was on when symptoms were occurring, sometimes off, but always on right before a high idle, & would stay for a number of start ups, tho high idle came & went... at first nothing corrected it, then i took apart the throttle body, scrubbed & cleaned as much as possible... symptoms went away for a few days then came back the same... difference was, i never got the sputter again, & now every time it high idled, one rev-up on the gas pedal, & it dropped to normal

in the end, i got a p0123 (i think.. codes p0120-0124 are TPS related) pulled from the diagnostics... free to get done at car parts stores... & if u didnt kno, a CEL = Check Engine Light (little engine "picture" light in the dash) is a warning that On Board Diagnostics (OBD II) has detected an electronic miscommunication or fault, & stores a code

anywho, replaced TPS with properly working one... no more problems

aaronsxj, who gave u that maintenance tip to fill the intake manifold with gas, & multiple times?!?.. thats wild... sounds like maybe an old school carbureted (wow, even CF's spell check doesnt kno what carbureted is)

youngin, respect you & your opinion were wrong... SeriousOffroad ( no more FrankZ?) knows more than you... gasoline doesnt ever go in the intake manifold, only air... there is sensor that monitor air pressure (MAP), vacuum lines, that use the intakes air pressure to equalize/vent pressures from other systems... fill it with gas & you're negating the purpose of all those

& come one, can u put one cohesive sentence together??.. periods go at the end of sentences, not 2 words before

Its fuel injected. I kept throttle body open so it would evaporate. Out. It loosned up a lot of gunk in the manifold and burned it out. Lotsa mesquito. Fog lol

ok KID... WOW, u'r so intelligent with hacking around the vulgar word filter... very impressive... maybe u should fill urself up with some gas, loosen up all the "gunk" & burn it out UR rear

i didnt kno an a$$ could speak... have personal experience? so what ur saying is an a$$ speaks like me, & not like u, with ur "passed down" nuggets of maintenance tips, & polished written skills??
