Replacing valve cover gasket. Started to take off the hose between the engine and air box and the hose just split off just before the the little spout and the remaining piece cracked off. Where can I get a new one? Will I be able to drive with it like that? Maybe tape it up temporarily? Please help! '97 4.0L

It's a CCV elbow. It's part of the emissions system. You can get them in just about any parts store. I bought mine of the local Dodge dealership and I would recommend replacing the rubber grommet as well. Chances are it's hard when it should be pliable.

Okay. Found it; PCV valve hose breather. And of course Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, NAPA, and Car Quest don't have it in stock. The dreaded dealer is next on the list...

No, it's not a PCV on your model-year, it's a CCV. Don't ask for a PCV. Most parts stores will tell you they don't have it if you call it a PCV.

Btw, I prefer the dealer stock because I'm pretty certain the quality of the plastic is better. Same with the rubber the grommet is made from.

And if you're just wanting the piece of rubber hose that's broken I would just get that at my local parts store. Many of them will just give you that piece if they have it. Just be sure sure it's snug on the CCV elbow.

Thanks, I called the dealer and I'm getting it tomorrow morning.

For a temporary fix you can get a piece of 1/2 or 5/8" rubber hose and two hose clamps to fasten them together, I did the same thing on the other end at the air cleaner box and it made no difference in operation so much so in fact I still have it there.

I think you can find the parts cheaper than at the dealer, I know I found stuff on amazon.

I just wanted it fixed asap, that's why I didn't want to order anything amd wait "x" amount of days. In the mean time I just taped it, the only driving I'll be doing is 5 minutes tomorrow morning.

Dorman 47079(black) front Rear valve 47057(gray)
Available at oreilly auto parts. You can buy a rear one and drill out the small hole with a 3/8th drill bit and use it on the front grommet dorman 42344

Or he could just use the one he's already got on order with the dealer, and plans to pick up tomorrow....
