I have a 2000 classic with a pass. rear window and door lock problems. The pass rear window just stopped after being in the down position. I changed out the motor in the parking lot, assuming it was the motor without checking anything else (yes stupid I know). Well anyways, new door motor, nothing. I replaced the dr. door master switch with part from a wreck, same thing-3 windows work, pass rear out. The door locks were working before I started pulling the dr. door panel off and on but now no locks and still no window. It has to be a power issue. I read a post about a connection jump behind the drivers kick panel but havent got to that yet. Anyone out there have any ideas for a fix????

 

Dude i have a similar problem. my rear passenger door window doesn't work and my rear drivers side electric lock doesn't work. At least my window is up though. im afraid to tear mine down because im sure ill tear something else up. so ill be watching this thread with you to see if anyone knows the fix before i screw it up worse then it is.

by the way how hard was it to install the new window motor. that might be my problem im not sure.

 

I also have the same problem with my 2000 XJ!

Many times (not 100%), the passenger side front window and both rear windows do not work from their respective controls--only from the driver controls.

Any ideas?

I replaced the motor in about 2 hours, start to finish in a parking lot. Not much hand room in the rear doors but it can be done much faster in a garage much faster.

 

yeah i guess im gonna have to pull the panel off and throw some power to the motor to see if its working or not. thanks

start here....this is possibly the easiest fix for a VERY frustrating problem. Windows never worked before, but after doing this they work perfectly....write-up only for 97 and up though

that is an awesome link--thanks! gonna try it tonight. I do agree with with one of the folks that tried though--lose the paperclip for a good wire!

my problem occurs randomly, so maybe just a good cleaning of the connection will do it.

I would go through the door switches, checking with a volt meter. Starting with the drivers side. (voltage going into switch, and out when activated). If you find no power at the individual doors, odds are problem is in the rubber sleeve. Between the door and body. A common spot for wire ware!

 

I followed Rockhounds link above tonight--fixed my problem easy-breezy! Thanks Rockhound!!

I made a nice jumper wire with spade terminals and taped everything up nice instead of the paperclip. I did use the paperclip to verify the fix before making the jumper wire though.

I simply jumped the brown and tan wires to the window lock switch. Of course, now the "window lock" feature doesn't work, but my kids are grown now!

Thanks. I know there are a lot of probs in the rubber boot area. I looked there first and didn't find any. Very cramped space to work in too! LOL
