Power steering hard to turn at idle/cam sensor code
So I took the XJ wheelin today and ended up with two issues.
The first one is that the power steering is hard to turn/no assist at idle. If I bump the throttle at all it will turn just fine. The fluid condition is good, no leaks and the level is fine. I'm curious if this system uses some type of pressure valve in the lines or on the pump that might be sticking or what?
The other issue is climbing up a hill the engine sputtered and died and then would not restart. I put it in neutral and backed down the hill until it was level and let it sit for a few minutes thinking I might have starved it for fuel. After 5 minutes it started up just fine but had the MIL on. I checked and found a code for the CMP sensor. I know that this is a common issue with the 4.0L engines but I was wondering if it is just a sensor problem or could the problem be with the camshaft sensor lobe?
BTW: 1996 XJ Country 4.0L
Thanks for any help.

No I didn't, sorry. I had bought a steering box to try but never got around to installing it. I have since sold that Jeep.
