Anyone know what kind of power steering fluid a '91 XJ (4.0L, 4x4) uses? I've searched around the net but haven't found a clear answer other than not to use ATF. The parts store had some red stuff and some clear stuff... is there a difference? Or is either one fine?

The Jeep has red stuff in the PS reservoir now, has me wondering if it is the red PS fluid or ATF in there. It looks and smells like ATF. It seems to be working fine but I had a little leak (loose fitting, my fault) and need to top it off.

 

look on the back of the bottle....if it says it is good for mopar products, should be ok

 

Use regular PS fluid. It will be clear or slightly amber. I would flush out the trans fluid to be safe.
