Go buy a bottle of power steering fluid. That should solve your problems. It's called "power steering fluid".

Just wondering if i needed a specific kind. I got a bottle it says it meets honda, ford, chrysler, amc specs. I already put it in.

its a smart question. some vehicles take pentosin or Chf11 or 12 . but a Cherokee just get some atf or power steering fluid. i believe the cap says on it in yellow lettering what should be used.

you can trash your whole steering system if you put mineral oil in the wrong system . but you can put atf in a system carrying mineral oil based fluids. if you flush it all out first. but no the other way around because it makes all the seals rapidly degrade .
