Power loss and popping possible vacuum leak?
Hello. I am having a problem with my 85 Cherokee 2.8. The jeep will idle, but it just seems a little..... slow. Once I give it any gas it Will rev, but it is very hesitant, now to the point I can't really drive it. It also does a kind of mini backfire when coming down.for the few months that I've had it it has always had an issue with spontaneous loss of power followed by a 'pop'. until recently it wasn't that common but then it was happening every five to ten seconds, mostly at highway speeds. Maybe its tunnel vision but I can't help but think its a vacuum leak? My other thought was a failing fuel pump but really I have no idea how to test the mechanical pump. any thoughts? I know many have had similar problems and answers may lie in other threads but as I peruse from my phone I have a hard time getting around. if anyone has any suggestions that may point me in the right direction would really help. so far all new plugs cap and wires. thanks!

I had a Chevy S10 with the 2.8 that had the same problem. It turned out to be a clogged fuel strainer in the fuel tank.
