the numbers in the first chart are the number of teeth you need on your gear for tire size and gearing

On the contrary. If you regear to close to stock, you will gain alot of it back as the engine is now working CLOSE to within the stock loads. It SHOULD only be within 1-2 mpg change from stock. Thats if you had the same accessories on your stock(bumpers, roof rack, tire carrier ect.). If you had added roof racks or other stuff it work against your mpg tho.

One issue i didnt see mentioned in this thread for consideration is the type of terrain you live and drive in predominately. I ran 32's, auto and 3:55's for a short time here in Pa... then did a trip to Colorado. Ouch.. i felt the hit in my pocket.
I was running a tank of fuel to my buds 3/4 or less in a YJ with 5spd, 32's and 4;10's. Once i regeared i was within a few 10ths of a gallon in fillups running cross country when compared to the same vehicle.
Point being if you live in a mountainous terrain your gonna find that you'll geberally dislike a 33 with stock gears more than a guy from say Kansas.
