Default power locks issues

2000 XJ sport, 136,000 4.0
My power locks in the XJ have become iffy. They work fine, and then all of a sudden just stop working. This morning it was around 55 degrees and they wouldn't work. Now it's 70 degrees and they work fine. Any ideas??

yes i have the same issue...on my 1997 xj..they work fine sometimes and another time..2 wont work,i see on youtube that the controler for the power locks is the passenger side lock module,i have had a look at the wires within the rubber boot and all seem fine..but of course a wire or 2 maybe broken under the insulation,i have a 2nd hand door lock unit coming soon to test it out,the black switch covers on the control units can be difficult to remove without damaging the switch, the switch covers need to be removed to take the unit apart to resolder the solder joints within.but if i was you i would look very carefully at the wires under the black rubber boot at the door.you may get lucky and fined the problem there.

If they work normally then suddenly don't work at all I would start looking for broken wires where they come through the door.

This fixed the issues on my 2000.

In regards to Cheddar's suggestion, they don't have to be broken, could just be worn through insulation causing a short
