I've not taken one apart to know exactly how it works, but it sounds like something has broken in the motor casing and it's no longer connected to the cables.

Looking at Ralphs pictures, I'd say that the motor set up is for the seat lift/lower and may be the exact same or very similar to the pre 97 models.

Looking at some pictures online they look pretty similar in both pre and post 97. In the parts manual the exact same image is also used but part numbers are different. That potentially could all be down to different wiring connectors as they did change a lot of connectors in the facelift.

There are 3 PN's for the Pre and 2 for the post.

I found this on eBay - says XJ or GC but also says '96 and up. Trying to find something for an earlier XJ is strangely difficult . What's up with that ?

Apprecate everyone's input on this !

That is all I see too.
That seller on Ebay has their own website.
I scoped these out awhile back but I have parts for power seats up the ying yang so I swapped a motor without a broken gear in.
What motor is broken? One of the tilts or the forward and back?

So trying to get a look to see what a '95 power seat base looks like.
Found this but I don't think the seller has a clue. He says '95 and '96.
Looks like mine.

https://www.ebay.com/i/123258881552?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=123258881552&targetid=59377233685 3&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9003405&poi=&campa ignid=2086169716&mkgroupid=76147899766&rlsatarget= aud-298628318826la-593772336853&abcId=1141016&merchantid=113795846&gc lid=EAIaIQobChMI0e7_9-jx5AIVwcDICh0BTAoNEAQYBCABEgII1fD_BwE

Reason I think he doesn't have a clue is cause I found this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1995-Jeep-G...8AAOSwTTFc730s

Big difference.
I stalk Ebay and Craigslist pretty good and have never seen motors that look like that for sale.
All the ones I see look like the first link and like mine.

EDIT: I just realized the second link is a Grand Cherokee.

This may not be the same part as yours but this is the motor that controls the forward/backwards of the seat: https://www.ebay.com/p/1222165466

That repair kit on ebay is for the lift/lower motors.

It may be worth removing that motor with the 2 small screws and testing it out of the seat to see if the ends of the cables spin with the motor or if they can spin freely by hand. If they run into a nylon gear to push the seat, it may be possible that the nylon has rounded out.

I just had a look at my seat base as I reckoned it looked like the first link and it is the same as that first link.

Edit: The 2nd link is for a Grand Cherokee

boxburn - that sure "looks" like mine ! I'll check the part number on my motor tonight and compare it to that eBay dudes numbers.

I think I'm closing in on this sucker.... id be hosed without you guys. Power seats seem to be the most mysterious repair with the least amount of clear data for any system in the XJ . Weird !

You'll probably find that either they haven't previously been that common to break or in recent years there's been no point in trying to repair them as they were available or plentiful at scrap yards. If you were in the UK and could nail down the issue, I have a seat mech with a smashed lift motor on that could provide spares but I know that spares are more in supply where you are.

That motor with the stripped gear I posted is not the forward and back like in your link.
Never took one of those apart.
It is one of the tilt motors. Which I am pretty sure the 2 of those are the same on the seat base.

And I did realize that second link is a GC after a few minutes. LOL

All 3 of my motors run. Therefore it is a mechanical issue. For and aft, OK. Front and rear high adj inop. Sugestions?

Have you had a look up at Ralphs picture? You may need to strip it down to solve it as it's all there electrically.

If they haven't changed the floor pan, would a later model base work in your 95?

OP is no longer in need of help, look up a few. Confusing these threads aren't they?
