Default Power/Comfort Switch

I have a 94 xj 4L 3 speed automatic and it's been in comfort setting forever.
Could you tell me what's the most economic setting and what does the switch actually do?

the motor tachs up higher before trans upshifting. The comfort shifts at a lower RPM therefore conserving fuel economy.

Not really. The factory did away with the Comfort setting in later years due to customer complaints and the fact that it DIDN'T increase economy.

OP, put it in the Power mode. Does the switch light up when you do? If not, post back up and we'll get it fixed for ya.

You drive a 20+ year old box, if you bought it for the fuel economy, I have a set of golden gates I would like to sell ya.

I thought when they went over to the H.O. in '91, they did away with the power/comfort switch?

My '92 H.O. does not have the switch.

On my '87 Renix, comfort has softer takeoff and upshifts. Power is crisper.

I kinda thought so, too regarding the year split.

Was not a option in 94 I bought a new xj in 94 out of the three dealers I visited and all the factory option listed it was never shown. Has to of been a tranny swap or some one pulled a fast one on ya when you bought it .....JM2CW.....

Both my '91 and my wrecked '92 has the switch. I have tried running them both in both settings and I haven't really been able to tell the difference.

I had a 91 limited edition. Which had all power stuff and leather interior. It also came with the comfort switch. It was pretty useful when driving around town.

I miss that jeep

Possibly because the switch is bad. Does it light up in the Power mode?

My switch works the way it should. I meant to say there was no noticable difference in gas mileage. Sorry for the confusion.

I don't think mines ever worked....I figured I was just going to replace all the stock switches(fogs, defroster, wiper, and trans) with rocker switches for auxiliary components. Would it be worth it to fix the switch and not replace it with a rocker auxiliary switch?
