okay so a friend of mine is having an issue with her 2004 XJ 6 Cyl.
when the key is accessory position, door chimes still sound with doors close but only until car is put into drive.
lights for window switch dont light up either

can anyone trace this problem
i have a dvom but i wouldnt know where to start
anyone familiar with the wiring for those specific functions?

Dude the jeep CHEROKEEs (XJ) were only only made from 1984-2001, so ur friend can't own a 2004 XJ!!!

 

Get a test light.. volt meters are not necessary unless you REALLY know what you are doing.. most DIY guys/gals just need to know if a wire is hot (has pwr) or not.. and a newer model truck should have an airbag.. screwing with wiring might set off the airbag so be careful..

Check the battery.. sounds like a low charge battery could be the issue

just for the sake of it also.. x2 the guy above... when Chrysler brought out the liberty it was a sad day.. but REPLACE the cherokee ??? What IS the world coming to..

 

........ also try pulling off your batt term to be safe and learn to use a multimeter and start checking to see what switches might be failing also check your relays.

 

Is the dome light on at the same time the chime is going off? Is it only happening in the acc position not with the key in the ign but in the off position?

Door latch is bad.........Ground disconnect part of switch is faulty or corroaded.

It's not an XJ?!..........I was ripped off...

 

Yep X2, sounds like one or more door (pin) switches is shorted. Un plug them one at a time and see if it goes away...
