Posi-Lock 4wd engagement
Just wondering if anyone uses posi-lock cable actuated 4wd engagement? I have a 91 cherokee 2 door and the vacuum actuator is gone. Not sure if i should spend alot on a new actuator or just shell out 260$ for the posi-lock kit. Is it pretty hard to use? any issues with it? Also when you pull the cable to engage the front axle, is there a way to lock it in so it doesen't slip out of 4wd? Thanks!

His is probably gone because the stock vacuum junker broke just like yours and mine did.

Hell, I'd hit the JY and see if I could find a non-disco D30. If not, I know there is a swap you can do to get the disco axle out, and a 1-piece axle in.

We attempted a newer non vacuum solid axle from a 96 XJ in my son's 87. We found out the hard way that you need ALL of the internals to make it work as the passenger side axle shaft for a non vacuum axle is a little thicker. So you would need the carrier or at least side gears from the newer axle as well. Most likely, the outer axle guts for the passenger side as well.

The Posi Lock is a great unit but like so many other after market items available for the XJ I decided I could build something for cheapert than what was available. I built a home brew posi lock for my XJ whan my vacuum junker died. I used a hand throttle cable available at you friendly local Napa auto parts store and made my own. I already know what you guys are going to say PICTURES!!!! OK, I'll post some pics of my personal posi lock set up when I get home in a couple days. I built my posi lock for about $40 dollars in pieces parts and a couple hours of my personal time. $37 dollars of it is for the hand throttle. The most expensive piece of the puzzle. I have had my personal posi lock for about 2 years now with ZERO problems. engages and disengages every time and works like a champ. My 4x4 light even lights when it is engaged. Santa Claus is bringing me diff lockers front and rear for Christmas. it will be interesting to see if that brings any new challenges.

Easy test is jack up the passenger side front wheel and put the drivers side on the floor. start her up and put it in 4Hi. if you can still easily spin your pass. side front wheel you're not in 4WD. if it won't spin you're golden.

I ran a posi-Lock on my YJ when I had it. That thing was great, and even better was I had a locker in the front, so it let me drive on the road with out even feeling it there...
