popping in front end
so i've got a problem with my front end. while in 4wd and under torque, my front end pops and pops pretty rapidly until i let off.
at first i thought it was an axle shaft or spider gear but i open the diff and it's immaculate in there. i pull the short side axle shaft (it felt like the popping was on the drivers side) and it's perfect. my hubs are in good shape too.
anyone have an idea of what i should check to make this problem go away?

couple ideas.
1.) crawl underneeth your jeep. Wiggle your front drive shaft back and fourth with you hands. While doing this, watch your U joints that connect your outer axle with inner axle. When mine were bad I could wiggle my driveshaft and see the play in the joints.
2.) motor/transmission mounts?

could be that the chain in the transfer case is worn also. I had that problem before and the sound does come mostly from the front end because it is traveling through the driveline. After it is stretched a bit, the chain will jump over a tooth under power.

i actually thought about it being something with the xfer case, but i don't trust myself with that type of thing to look for myself.
i'm gonna take it to a shop and see what they find

mine seems to do something similar. In 4wd i can let the Jeep pull itself and it goes until a certain point and binds up, if i give it gas, it pops and makes bad noises, then moves freely again until the same spot and binds up. now, if this is the transfercase, and that chain breaks or something while in 4wd, will i still have 2wd?

From what I've read, the chain only moves in 4x4. So it breaking wouldn't stop 2WD driveline, except if it breaks, it could really tangle up your 2WD gears...
